Space Saving
- "We want to upgrade our aging facility."
- "Water quality fluctuates too much. We want to stabilize water processing."
- "We need to comply with increasingly rigorous discharge regulations."
- "We need to upgrade our facility without stopping operation, but there’s no space to install new equipment."
Many customers face the problem of no available space when the time comes to install new equipment.
Sumitomo Heavy Industries Environment offers its technological expertise to solve a diversity of issues customers face.
- Integrating a sediment tank and a coagulating sedimentation tank
- Installing a high-speed thickener in confined spaces
- Replacing coagulating sedimentation + sand filtration with high-speed clarifier
Integrating a sediment tank and a coagulation-sedimentation tank
- Activated sludge treatment and coagulating sedimentation tank are integrated.
- Only one sedimentation tank is needed to achieve equivalent water quality.
- Using SUMI-THICKENER reduces tank dimensions to sizes smaller than conventional sedimentation tanks.
- The compact aeration tank accommodates greater loads.
Installing high-speed thickener in confined spaces
The SUMI-THICKENER offers a footprint as little as one-third that of conventional sedimentation tanks.
Typical Installation example
The SUMI-THICKENER sedimentation tank is small enough to install in unused spaces located around a typical factory. It can be installed in spaces where conventional sedimentation tanks wouldn’t fit.

Floc filtration system
SUMI-THICKENER Z is capable of achieving water quality equivalent to water processed by filtration equipment. This system features a simple structure and significantly reduces the installation space required.
Reducing aeration tank installation space
- No separate sedimentation tank and sludge condensation tank are needed, and the configuration allows high-load operations. This makes it possible to reduce aeration tank capacity and overall facility dimensions.
- The resulting water quality is equivalent to the quality of water processed by coagulating sedimentation and sand filtration. The processed water can be recycled.
- Produces less surplus sludge than when using activated sludge.
- Existing aeration tanks and idle water tanks can be used to install the new equipment. This system is ideal for upgrading existing facilities to boost capacity.
